Simulating groundwater level?

Does anyone have any experience with approaches to simulating a soil profile (using TRANSPORT) where the upper section is unsaturated/partially saturated whilst the lower half is saturated (i.e., below the "water table")?

Is it reasonable to specify different volumes of the initial solution in each cell prior to transporting the displacing solution through?

I am interesting in investigating whether the saturation of mineral phases occurs at or around this water level due to downward leaching.

The assumption in transport is that it takes the same amount of time for equal volumes of water to transit each cell. So if the porosity is the same and the saturation in the unsaturated zone is 20%, you could have lengths that are 5 times greater for the unsaturated zone than the saturated zone. It is pretty primitive, and would not account for real uz flow, variations in saturation, variations in properties, water table, etc. It is easy enough to set up and perhaps would give some results that you could start with.
