Hello, my name is Nicolaus van Zweel. I am fairly new to PHREEQC and geochemistry as a whole. I studied chemical engineering and stumbled on this field by chance. I am currently busy with a master’s degree and I am researching methodologies to model acid mine drainage using PHREEQC and data obtained from standard tests conducted by geochemical practitioners in South-Africa.
Tom:
Welcome Nicolaus and thanks for joining,
Feel free to post any questions and examples of input scripts. We will do our best to help where possible.
Good luck with your masters.

Thank you very much. I do have a question about a problem I am tinkering with. I modeled a humidity cell and the model seems to describe the leach tests data well, but a fitting parameter I used, I do not agree with and it is wrong in my opinion. It is the n value for the exponent for the term (A/V) in the reaction kinetics as described by Appelo & Postma, p162. I had to make this value much higher than values reported in literature. I think the shrinking core model will describe the data better an I just want to know if any one has attempted to use the shrinking core model in a kinetics block in PHREEQC. I will post in the appropriate forum. Just a general question thought?
Tom:
Interesting question Nicolaus,
Would suggest that you post this in the Kinetics forum/board,
Thanks
