Question about the Solid State Diffusion
« on: November 30, 2016, 03:03:13 AM »
I would like to plot isotopic species composition vs distance(radius in terms of crystal) for the period and with the assistance of crank(1967) equation. Is it possible to get diffusion model plot for species in mineral by using PHREEQC??

Example: Li abundance and isotopic composition distribution across augite crystal (Diffusion induced Li isotopic fractionation during the cooling of magmatic rocks: The case of pyroxene phenocrysts from nakhlite meteorites by Bohn pp4819). I am looking to plot for the model chart in order to compare my experimental data.

PHREEQC is designed for diffusion in water. It might be possible to somehow make it look like it is diffusion in a solid, but I'm not sure it is the best way to go. You could use Matlab or some other scripting tool to implement the Crank equations.
